Ceramic coatings have established themselves as the pinnacle of automotive protection and for good reason. When done right, they offer incredible protection, shine, and longevity. But let’s be honest: a lot of people have had coatings applied by someone else and walked away feeling underwhelmed. Maybe that’s you.

Why So Many Ceramic Coatings Fall Short

We’ve had a growing number of clients come to us after getting a ceramic coating installed by another shop or dealership, often at a steep price and feeling completely let down. Here’s what we typically find:

Poor Prep Work or Paint Correction
The coating may have been applied over unprepped, contaminated, or swirled paint. If the surface isn’t properly cleaned, corrected, and decontaminated, the coating won’t bond properly. It won’t perform well, it won’t last.
Low-Quality or Misrepresented Products
Not all coatings are created equal. Many shops sell what amounts to a glorified spray wax and call it a “ceramic coating” These may offer a little gloss and slickness, but they wash away in months (sometimes weeks). They aren’t true coatings, and they’re often not installed with any real care. Very popular with high volume\low cost detail shops and dealerships.
No Maintenance Education
Some installers don’t explain how to properly maintain a coated vehicle. Others don’t offer maintenance washes, check-ins, or refreshes. Coatings do require care to perform at their best, especially in the Midwest with our salt, sun, and seasonal extremes. Not to mention the never ending barrage of bugs and road construction zones.
